Protecting Indigenous Languages: Reviving Sudan and Egypt's local dialects
Languages holds our ancestors’ stories, songs, culture and histories. When a language dies so does our connection to our culture.
Black Pearls Editor Nareeman had the pleasure of sitting down with actor and musician Ramey Dawoud, to discuss the importance of protecting and preserving Sudan and Egypt's local languages. We also discussed his most recent endeavour, which seeks to promote the Nubian language through children’s books.
The planned series, Read, Write, and Count in Nubian, aims to teach the Nubian language through storytelling and features works by poet Khalid Eltinaé and illustrator Hatim-Arbaab Eujayl. The project is currently seeking funding through kickstarter.
